The Mòd charity shop, situated on the North Pier, Oban, is open from 11am to 3pm Monday to Saturday. Donations of bric-a-brac are always welcome to help in the efforts to fundraise for the Royal National Mod Oban 2009.

PREPARATIONS for this year’s Royal National Mod will be in full swing in September, as the intricate organisation involved with the week-long event is finalised.
But entrants and spectators alike owe a debt of gratitude to a small shop on the town’s North Pier that has gathered in thousands of pounds for the event over the past two years.
The Mod Shop in the North Pier’s white building is entirely run by volunteers and has sold all sorts of donated items.
It will close on August 29, bringing to an end more than two years of trading, for the sole purpose of funding the Royal National Mod 2009, which will be held in Oban.
In July, the shop volunteers introduced Mod memorabilia to its shelves, which will also be sold during Mod week.
Memorabilia for sale includes: Umbrellas, mugs, teddy bears, pens, key rings, badges, water bottles, t-shirts, highlighters, balloons and even children’s bubbles.
Margaret McLellan, Mod fundraising committee chairwoman and shop volunteer, said: ‘There will be a big sale in the third week of August; around the time we have to close the Mod shop.
‘The shop has traded really well and it has taken in the bulk of our funding.
‘This will be the third year we have gone round the agricultural shows and Highland games and we have held the usual summer ceilidhs but the shop has been a fantastic source of revenue.
‘However, it wouldn’t run without those who donated items and bought things and the fantastic list of volunteers we have; they never let us down.
‘The only time we have had to close was over the Christmas holidays and the afternoon of the local Oban Mod.’
Mrs McLellan also said the committee was extremely grateful to Argyll and Bute Council for allowing them to use the white building.

Argyll Gold Concert: 27/08/2009
Each August the Argyllshire Gathering takes place in Oban, with a prestigious Piping competition and a track and field events programme. This event brings to Argyll a large number of visitors, including many from other parts of the U. K. and also from abroad.

As part of the Year of Homecoming celebrations, the Local Committee for the Royal National Mod, Oban 2009, is preparing to present a Concert on the evening of the Gathering - Thursday, 27th August, in the Corran Halls. On the programme will be as many as possible of Mod Gold Medallists who came from Argyll.

The Argyll Gold Concert will provide an evening of beautiful Gaelic music from the singers, joined by some instrumentalists on pipes and accordion. It should be a night to remember. Don't miss it - folks still talk about similar concerts held in 1981 and 1992!
